Hikers Rescued
Two men out for a day hike around Slide Mountain ended up spending the night in the woods. DEC Rangers and NYS Troopers started a SAR mission for the two men after getting a 911 call early Sunday Morning. Both men were rescued and suffered exposure, but are okay. (Dec 3)

Hurricane Sandy
We are expecting 4-5 inches of rain with winds of 35-40 mph with gust up to 65 mph. The Eastern Escarpment will see the most significant rain and wind. The ground is saturated, so expect more flooding then normal. This event will last from Mon-Wed. Click on picture for more details (Updated Oct 28)

Fire Alert!
This is one of the driest Summers since 1956. In the past month there has been an increase in forest fires in New York State. The DEC is asking people to voluntarily not build fires while camping. Click on image for more details. (July 18)

Bear Problems
A local resident in the Town of Hunter has continued to feed the bears. The DEC passed regulations to outlaw this person defiant behavior, but this doesn't seem to be working. Click on picture for more details (July 15)

RT 23a Problems
The Town of Hunter, DOT, DEC, and law enforcement have been working on solving some of the horrible parking problems on Rt 23a between Palenville and Haines Falls. Swimmers have been abandon their cars parked on the highway and leaving massive amount of garbage in the Kaaterskill Clove. They are now proposing to put up NO Parking signs between Palenville and Haines Falls and stepping up law enforcement Click on picture for more details (July 15)

Swimmer Injured
On Sunday, June 21, 2012 a 19-year-old man sustained significant head injuries while jumping off the 24' high Fawn's Leap waterfalls off of Rt 23a. He was transported to Albany Med by helicopter. Click on picture for more details (June 21)

Hiker Injured
On Thursday, June 14, 2012 an elderly woman was hiking in Winter Clove and fell off a small waterfall into the pool below and was injured. The local fire department was called rescue and transport her to a local hospital. Click on picture for more details (June 14)

Hiker Injured
On Tuesday, April 10, 2012, a 54 year old male sustained injuries while hiking in the Hunter-Spruceton Region. It is reported that he fell and had injuries to his chest, and was able to get to Rt 23a to call for help. Click on picture for more details (April 11)

Skiing Death
On Saturday, Feb 4, 2012, a 54 year old male hit an embankment at Windham Mountain and was killed. He was skiing on the ski trail, "Upper Warpath". This is the same ski trail that Erin Clare Malloy-McArdle, 18 year old woman was kill on on Jan 16, 2011. Click on picture for more details (Feb 5)

Ice Climbing Accident
On Monday, January 30, 2012, a ice climber fell 30 feet off a pitch on Rt 214 in Hunter NY. He broke his leg during the fall. He sustained no life threatening injuries.. Click image for more details (Jan 30)

Death at Hunter Mtn
At 8:50 AM on Wed, Brian Mattice of Gilboa, 41, a Hunter Mtn employee was killed when he slipped and fell while working on snowmaking equipment. He was wearing crampons and a helmet. He tumbled down 200' and suffered head trama when he struck a tree and rock. Click image for more details (Jan 19)
