Kaaterskill Falls Death

On Tuesday evening on July 29, 2014, a 23 year old woman fell off Kaaterskill Falls and was killed. EMS and fire companies were called to Kaaterskill Falls, but she was declared dead at the scene. Click image for more details (July 29)

Bear Pop Reduction

The DEC has announced a reduction in the Black Bear population. This is due to many incidents in the Catskills over the past couple of years. Hunting season will be extended to the beginning of September for the Catskill Regions. Click image for more details (July 29)

Fawn's Leap Injury

On Wednesday, July 24, 2014, a 17 year old woman fell at Fawn's Leap Falls and broke her spine along with other injuries. She was airlifted to Albany Med by helicopter. Click image for more details (July 24)

Kaaterskill Falls Injury

Hiker Injured

On Thursday afternoon, July 17, 2014, a hiker was injured on the southern part of the Escarpment Trail near North-South Lake. Search and Rescue was called in to find and extraction of the hiker. Click image for more details (July 17)

Hiker Injured

On Monday, June 30, 2014, a 45 year old woman was injured on the Escarpment Trail near North Lake. Search and Rescue was called in assist in the extraction of the woman. Click image for more details (June 30)

Kaaterskill Falls Death

On Saturday, June 28, 2014, a 54 year old woman fell off a closed trail that leads to the upper water basin between the upper and lower Kaaterskill Falls. She suffered significant injuries to her head, torso, and leg. She was rescued by local fire departments and airlifted to Albany Med where she died during surgery. Witnesses reported that the narrow and dangerous ledge where she fell was muddy and slippery. Click image for more details (June 28)

Land Slide on Rt 42

Tax Day Snow Storm

The 2013 Black Bear harvest from the DEC shows that 2013 take of Black Bears is 4 times the average in the Catskills.Click image for more details (Apr 7)

Ice Climbing Accident

An ice climber was injured when he fell approximately 20 feet near Moore's Bridge in the Kaaterskill Clove on Rt 23a. He received head injuries.Click image for more details (Jan 10)
