OSI buys 3,100 acre Blue Hill in Willowemoc Wild Forest

Unread post by dave »

On March 5, 2025, Open Space Institute ("OSI") acquired 3,100 acre Blue Hill in the Town of Neversink in Sullivan County. It is located adjacent to the Willowemoc Wild Forest. The land will then be transferred to New York State DEC, and it will become part of the 14,800 acre Willowemoc Wild Forest. It will increase the size of the Willowemoc Wild Forest to 17,900 acres. There are two mountains located in the Blue Hill property, (1) Blue Hill (2,740'); (2) Slawson Mountain (2,573'). This will be the largest land addition to the Catskill Forest Preserve in 25 years. There is also NYC DEP property located on the SE side of Blue hill that goes all the way to Rt 47. We are super excited about this land acquisition. You can read more about it here: https://www.openspaceinstitute.org/news ... ed-forests
