Seuk Kim was transporting 3 dogs from Maryland to Schohaire, New York. Just prior to the crash the pilot requested permission to reduce his altitude due to turbulence. He crashed into the mountain shortly after the request. The weather was poor. It was foggy and snowing. There was already a foot of snow where he crashed. The crash site covers both side of the Escarpment Trail. This will be the 8th plane crash around the Escarpment Trail. A glider crashed on the top of Windham High Peak very close to the summit a number of years ago. The glider wreckage was removed by the owner and pilot of the glider.
The NTSA (National Transportation Safety Board) is heading an investigation into the Crash. The FAA is also assisting the NTSA. The plane is a Mooney M20J (sometimes called a Mooney 201). It has a piston-powered engine (some had turbochargers). It has a single propeller. Most have four-seats and is considered a personal general aviation aircraft. Ithas low wings and tricycle landing gear. It was manufactured by the Mooney International Corporation. the M20J was betweek July 1976 through 1977. It is capable of flying a maximum of 201 miles per hour.

A number of state and federal government agencies were called to the plane crash. A number of animal rescue agencies were involved in the care of the dogs.
