Hiker Lost

On December 22, 2019, a 24-year-old hiker got lost on the Colgate Trail to Dutcher's Notch. After calling 911, they were able to get a general idea of where the lost her was located. DEC Rangers were able to locate her. Click image for more details (Dec 22)

Platte Clove Death

On October 6, 2019, a 50-year-old hiker started at the top of Platte Clove to hike down the clove. When he didn't show up later in the day, DEC Rangers search for him and found him dead. The following day 17 rangers were involved in the recovery. Click image for more details (Oct 7)

Forest Fire

On September 27, 2019, a forest fire occurred on Blackhead Mountain at around 3100'. It was caused by an abandon campfire. It took a large group of people along with NYS Police Helicopter to put the fire out. Overall it took 3 days to put the fire out. Click image for more details (Sept 29)

Death at Fawn's Leap

On Saturday, August 31, 2019, a 20-year-old West Point Cadet was hanging from the ledge at Fawn's Leap waterfalls in the Kaaterskill Clove, when the rock broke and he fell to his death. Click image for more details (Aug 31)

Medical Incident

On Saturday, August 17, 2019, a 41-year-old male hiker had difficult breathing while hiking Peekamoose Mountain. Rangers and EMS brought him down the mountain. He suffered from dehydration and exhaustion. Click image for more details (Aug 17)

Campsite Thief

On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, another camper stole camping gear from a camping site nearby. After some investigation by Rangers and State police, they ticketed the other camper. Click image for more details (Aug 13)

Lost Hikers

On Friday, July 7, 2019, a family of hikers split up, and three of the hikers drifted off the trail to Wittenberg Mountain. DEC Rangers were able to location the group and bring them back down safely. Click image for more details (July 7)

Rattlesnake Bite

On Monday, July 1, 2019, a person was bite by a Timber Rattlesnake in the Vernoykill falls area of the Catskill Mountains. They were airlifted by helicopter to a hospital for treatment. Click image for more details (July 1)

Injury on WHP

On Saturday morning, March 30, 2019, a 56-year-old male injured his leg while hiking between the Elm Ridge trail junction and the summit of Windham High Peak. It took 8 hours to extract him. Click image for more details (Mar 30)

Stranded on Friday

Skier Killed

On Saturday, February 9, 2019, 24 year old Edward Chu of Warren New Jersey, was killed after he struck a tree while skiing at a high rate of speed on an Intermediate trail at Hunter Mountain. He was skiing with his family. Click image for more details (Mar 9)

KF Hikers Trapped

BC Ski Accident

On February 2, 2019, a 36 year-old hiker-n-skier from Germany fell while backcountry skiing down the Rt 214 notch and broke his leg. Took 15-20 rescuers 7 hours to extract him. They worked until 2am. Click image for more details (Feb 2)

Skier Killed

On January 19, 2019, a skier named Brendan McCue, age 27, from Little Falls New York was killed when he ran off the ski trail and hit a large rock at Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl. He was killed instantly. Click image for more details (Jan 19)

Hiker Lost

On January 18, 2019 two hikers climbed Sugarloaf Mountain. Due to icy conditions, the amount of time it took far exceeded their estimates. On the return trip it became dark, and their headlamps failed. After several hours of attempting to hike out in the dark, they called for help. Click image for more details (Jan 18)

Hiker Injured

On January 13, 2019 a hiker fell and injured his leg. The accident happen late in the afternoon. EMS received a call around 5 pm. The local fire department and others helped extract the hiker with ropes. It is reported that he had a serious leg injury and was suffering from hypothermia. Click image for more details (Jan 13)

Hypothermia

On January 13, 2019 two hikes called 911 because one hiker injured his hip, and both were hypothermic on Slide Mtn. A while later a different hiker called and said that the injured hiker was unconscious. Click image for more details (Jan 13)
