Blue Marble Geographics has purchased Avenza Maps. Avenza Maps will become part of Blue Marble Geographics.
In case you are not aware, Avenza Map products are usually high quality maps built by professionals. Often they have professional GPS trackers that GPS trails with high quality L5 GPS devices. The GPS tracks are then put in mapping programs like QGIS to create high quality maps that are highly reliable.
All-Trails and Gaia Maps are tracks created by users. Sometimes the tracks lead onto private property or end up off trail. They are almost always made with L1 GPS devices, which is the lowest quality tracking GPS. The accuracy of L1 GPS can have margin of error up to 328' and perform poorly in ravines and deep valleys that you find in the Catskill Mountains.
We hope that Blue Mark Geographics continues to keep Avenza Maps going as they have promised.

We should note that Catskill Mountaineer only uses L5 GPS devices to create our maps. It took 3 years of tracking all the trails to complete our maps. And, we continue to update the tracks. Our tracks are usually accurate to several inches.
