On April 19, 2026 around noontime, a 15-year-old from Brooklyn was jumping off the falls. The water was up due to the Spring run off. The water was running fast and hard. When the Kaaterskill Creek is like this, it causes an Eddy (swirling funnel) that can pull swimmers to the bottom of the creek. Often times they drown. Unfortunately this is what happen to this teenager.
His friends tried to reach him, but that effort failed. When NYS Rangers arrived they were able to get him to shore. It was reported that he had been under the water for 20 minutes. They tried to revive him with CPR. He was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead.
