Notes about the Israel Wittman Sanctuary

 TRAIL
This Israel Wittman Sanctuary Trail System is owned by the Woodstock Conservancy. The total hike or ride through the trail system is 4.16 miles. Most of the trails are fairly wide, but sometimes overgrown with grass and weeds. The trail system is not harden, so you need to expect to have rocks (sometimes hidden in grass) in the middle of the trail. There are no views on any part of the trail system.

There are three loop trails in the Israel Wittman Sanctuary Trail System. The three loops range from 3/4 of a mile to 1.1 miles. Most are fairly easy. Loop A can be difficult on the eastern side for mountain bikes if rode in counter-clockwise direction. The other two loops are fairly easy to hike or ride.

All the trails are marked with Yellow Trail Markers. We did not have a difficult time following the trails. There is no registration box at the Israel Wittman Sanctuary Trailhead. But, they did have maps there. If they are out of maps, you can use your cell phone to take a picture of the map in the Kiosk. You can also download a pdf on this page of the map. There is NO water on this hike, so bring water with you.
 PARKING
In the busy summer months, the Israel Wittman Sanctuary Trail System can get busy. You cannot park on the side of Old Sawmill Road. So, if the parking area is full, you will need to go elsewhere.
 OTHER INFORMATION
There is some cell phone service in the Israel Wittman Sanctuary.

wet spot on the trail to Loop A in the Israel Wittman Sanctuary
The Access Trail to Loop "A" has a small swamp directly off the trail. It often floods the trail. So, there is a small bridge just off the side of the trail. The trail after the wooden bridge is quite rocky and rooty. In the dry months, the trail is dry.
