Baby on Board

Unread post by Jow »

Hello.

So I recently decided to try and join the Catskill 35er club. I snowshoed Slide last February and hiked Twin and Indian Head via portion of Devil's Path this summer. Getting to the mountains on weekends is tricky since i have a a 10 month old but my solution is that I bought one of those Osprey hiking backpacks that I can strap him into for this spring and summer. My question is which mountains would be the best to hike with a baby on my back so no bushwacking or scrambling allowed. It looks like Hunter and Balsam Lake Mountain have straight forward trails they seem like good options. Do any of you with more experience in area have other suggestions?

Balsam and Eagle don't have any real scrambling, although all the routes are steep.

Bearpen is pretty easy if you park to the south on County Road 3. Turn left at the hunter's cabin and walk the old ski lift maintenance road all the way to the top.
