Fisher spotted in Diamond Notch
Saw a fisher for the first time yesterday (3pm). Just south of the stone steps going up Diamond Notch. Didn't seem to mind us from across the stream until I tried to get closer for some photos. I thought it was a mink, but after searching this site, I guess it's not. Sadly this is the best I could get with my iPhone:

I'm pretty sure that is a Mink. There has been a den of them near the summit of Leavitt Peak for a number of years. Check out this post for more pictures of them: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=561&sid=2d228ac156 ... a214c1c285
Fishers are much longer and hairier. Both are hoppers.
Great find!

I've done a little more research and now believe you, and my first hunch, are correct! Thanks for the info!

Minks are rare in the Catskills. Once in a while someone might see an Ermine. I only know of a few sightings over the past couple of decades. But, the location where you found this one is very close to a previous sighting.
