Can anyone ID this flower?

Unread post by SNEAKers »

Found this in the cole between Sugarloaf and Plateau Mountain. Anyone know what type of flower this is?

Thanks!

That's a Red Trillium, also called a Stinkflower, Stinking Willie (my favorite) and a Stinking Benjamin. Next one you find, give a good sniff. It won't hurt your, but it does smell like rotten meat to some. it is said that this helps draw flies to help pollination.

Nice! When did you take that picture? When I was up in Mink Hollow at the end of May, they were mostly past their prime, although there were still a lot in bloom.

The painted trilliums and the viburnum were making a better show.
