Mt Hayden (2-1-2014)

Unread post by Rivet »

Did this short hike with my beagle. We climbed Mount Hayden. Parked at the end of Nauvoo Road at the snow plow turn-around (near the gate). Continued walking on the old woods road up to the ridge at Barlow Notch. Then, I followed the long path north to the top of Mt Hayden. The summit was wooded and only could find some views through the trees. Headed back down after snacking on peanut butter crackers. Took a different route for a short bit. Followed a woods road that paralleled the long path, until I got back down into the notch. Also, followed a short side road which lead to an old quarry site. Not much snow in the woods - only a couple of inches. Made it back to the car ten minutes before it started to sprinkle. Bare booting was fine ... only a few icy spots. Saw lots of deer prints along the ridge.

Nice pictures!

Are you the guy with the beagle that I met in October, going down the steep spot below the ladders on the east side of Slide as I was coming up? If so, that's one amazing pooch you've got. (If not, well, beagles are great dogs anyway. I'm partial to hounds of all kinds.)

No it was not me. But you don't meet many beagles on the trail.

I think there are some ledges on the south west side of Hayden where you can get a good view of Heloise Lake. I need to get back there again. Nice trip report.
