Hiking to Kaaterskill Hotel Site

Today, we decided to do a little hike. We arrived at South Lake at 10 PM. Snowmobilers were just starting to show up. We got a pretty good parking spot. Got our snowshoes on and headed out up the road past the dam. We then took the old carriage road up to the Escarpment Trail We then headed to Kaaterskill Hotel Site. We headed down the the lake. We then headed back and down the trail. We then did a detour to the Escarpment down by Sunset Ledge.

They did change out some of the signs, but still have the mileage to the Kaaterskill hotel site wrong. One side of the trail states one mileage, and the other said something else. Oh well.

After we got to the trail, we decided to turn around. Bad weather was coming in and we decided that it would be best to turn around. We headed to the cross-country ski trail. We looked for the Bobcat nest, but didn't see it. We did see some bobcat tracks thru out the hike. Saw some deer tracks.

When we got back to South Lake, there were close to 40 snowmobiles there. They had gas grills out. Some of the cross country skiers were complaining about the noise. But, at least they were not drag racing like last year. Last year, they didn't have mufflers. We did a little over 4 miles. Nice little walk.
