Flooding after storm

Unread post by dave »

There is flooding in the Catskill Mountains. The flooding is not as severe as the flooding we had in January of 2010. Central and western Catskills appear to have had more rain. Rt 214 in Phoenicia was closed as well as Spruceton Road. Here are some pictures:

The water level was going down very quickly. since it has been dry, the ground is soaking up the water. Still quite a bit of rain.

Nancy Lavelle, 55 of Willowemoc, was driving her 2009 Honda Civic in Claryville, New York when her car was washed off the flooded road by the East Branch of the Neversink River. Her car was found upside down in the stream yesterday at the intersection of Rt 19 and Hunter Road by a DEC helicopter. The State Police have stated that the road was overrun by the creek with 3-4 feet deep of flooding water. Her body was recovered today downstream in the Neversink Reservoir after being discovered by a DEC helicopter. Her body was discovered near the Neversink dam. She was on here way to work Friday.

That terrible that someone was killed. Sounds like the dry ground soaked up water pretty well. Great pictures.

As a side note, the Lexington bridge on 42 is open again (still doing normal construction aka lead pain removal)...It was closed because too much debris got caught up underneath and structural damage was suspected. I believe it opened back up yesterday. In case anyone needs to know.

Thanks kkayaker8 for the information. I talked with a DOT guy today. He said that the Mosquito Point bridge is in worse shape then the Lexington Bridge. This is why they reopened up the Lexington Bridge. He said that the Lexington Bridge isn't very safe.

Still have not heard if they got Spruceton Road open to the end yet. Those bridges are not in the best shape either.
