For years a commercial operation ran ATV's over the snowmobile trail around Kaaterkill Mountain range for years. This ruined the trail. In some areas, the trail is rutted 2-3 feet deep. Often filling up with water. In other areas, it is quite the mud hole. There has been a "No ATV's" sign up for years, but it is ignored.
Last year, the DEC put a stop to ATV's traveling over the trail. They also stopped clearing the trees. Late 2009 there were close to 100 trees down over the trail. Then in 2010, they cleared the trees from the trail. The trail started to repair itself. The rutted trail started to fill up, and drain out. Recently, the ATV's started to show up again, and all the problems have now come back.
