Swimmer injured at Fawn's Leap

Unread post by dave »

A 17-year-old girl broke her back while jumping off the 24' Fawn's Leap Falls. Haines Falls Fire Department was called along with Greene County Paramedics. She was airlifted by helicopter to Albany Medical Center. Now word on her condition and changes of a full recovery. The table on the top of the Falls can be slippery, and the water fall jumpers sometimes slip while running off the table into the water below.

In 2013, the Town of Hunter closed parking on Rt 23a in the Kaaterskill Clove to reduce partying and fights by Fawn's Leap. The swimmers now have to park in the parking lots by Bastion Falls to swim and jump off Fawn's Leap.

Fawn's Leap is located just off Rt 23a between Haines Falls and Palenville. It is a couple hundred feet upstream of Moore's Bridge on the Kaaterskill Creek. You can learn more about Fawn's Leap by clicking this link

Everyone at Catskill Mountaineer would like to wish her a speedy recovery.

There are some rumors that she jumped off the ledge on the right and landed in shallow water. Not sure why she needed a helicopter.
