Westkill | 12/1/2012 | Final High Peak

Unread post by TrunksWD »

I finished my last Catskills high peak with Westkill. A couple of buddies came with me to celebrate. They finished the Catskill 3500 in April. It was a nice cold day with about 3 or 4 inches of snow most of the way up. I heard the Catskills were a mess the following day because everything melted. We ran into a couple of groups of hikers on the way up, as well as a couple hunters. Next on my list is the Catskill winter badge and the Adirondack 46.

By the parking lot.

The bridge is still out, but the water was low enough that the crossing was easy.

Steep section on the way up.

Snow was beautiful!

I made it to the top. Officially done with the Catskill 3500. We actually walked by the top because the sign was missing.

Nice! Congrats! Did you walk past the summit and down to "Buck Ridge Lookout"?

I'm pretty sure the Lookout is before the summit.

Right. You used the approach from Diamond Notch. In any event just curious. That is an awesome place, "Buck Ridge Lookout" that is.

It was extremely foggy and you couldn't see more than 50 feet from the lookout. I've heard how great of a view it is, but I was unlucky. I'll definitely get up there again.

I'm going to be working on my Winter Badge, so I'll definitely get to it again during the winter, plus I hope to hike the Devil's Path over two days sometime next year.
