I am a new member here and found this site while surfing around the internet. I think the Devil's Kitchen area is beautiful and I am there frequently. I have numerous maps, guides and I use other web sites but the information here on this area provides more detail and beats them all. I have been trying to find information on that plane wreck on KHP for a while and I found it here. Very excited and I will be hiking there as soon as I can schedule it. I also want to find the fort that I have heard about, I believe it is from the civil war, but I need to do some further research.

Devi's Kitchen is beautiful, but also very dangerous. Two people where killed there last year, and one person was very seriously injured. The south access route is the safest route in. It is also on the edge of rattlesnake territory, so always keep an eye out for them. Especially, further down. Plattekill Falls is in the hiking section of this site, but we left out the other Falls in Hell's Hole and Devil's Kitchen. Mainly, because we like to discourage people from hiking down in there. It is very dangerous in there. Always use caution.
There are two place crashes on Kaaterskill High Peak. One is on the southeast side of the snowmobile trail. Right on the trail. And, the other is 490-500' Northeast of the summit. Just off the unmarked trail to the NE ledge. I think we list both plane crashes in the hiking section.
The Tory Fort in in the col between KHP and RT. It is located on the Northeast side of the col on the high rocks. It can be challenging to find. The Tory Fort is from the late 1700's. It was used by the British. You can hike down to the col from KHP, but it is hard to find the trail down. Most cut into the woods about 200' south of the summit of KHP. I think some of us are going to do a hike up there this Fall.
I would choose to hike KHP on a real nice day with clear skies. The view from Hurricane Ledge is once of the nicest in the Catskills.
