Some Advice on Hiking the Devil's Path

Unread post by sjmarano »

I've been section hiking the Long Path for the past couple of years
and though I've still got a fair distance to go before reaching the Devil's Path,
I'm trying to better gauge its difficulty. I'm an experienced hiker,
and though of 'AARP age' am in excellent shape. But about the most challenging
hike I've done in the past is climbing Breakneck Ridge (several times).
Could someone who has done both provide his/her view on how the difficulty
of Breakneck compares to climbing - say Indian Head or Twin or Sugarloaf?
Any viewpoint would be appreciated. For the record, it's not like I would hike
the entire Devil's Path at one time. I'd probably break it up into several loop,
lollipop and/or in-and-out hikes.

While I've never hiked Breakneck, I've done devils path multiple times, including two attempts to do it in one day (one was successful). On the successful one, I actually did it with two other people, one who was 61 and the other who was 69. You should have no problems as long as you take it easy and pay attention as you would on any hike in the woods on uneven surfaces.

The Devil's Path is difficult but not impossible. Just take your time.
