Sugarloaf postholers

Unread post by dundee »

Took a trip up Sugarloaf on Sunday 1-15. Started out cloudy, but quickly cleared to near complete sunshine. No snow (but lots of ice) until near the beaver pond just below Pecoy Notch. Snow increased from there and someone had postholed some nice big ones in the trail.

Very windy in Pecoy Nootch, but not so much on the summit.

Saw no one, but heard people climbing up Twin.

Snow conditions will no doubt change in the next few days, but folks, PLEASE wear your snowshoes and keep the trail in good shape for everyone else.

Unfortunately quite a few people think that there is no snow in the Catskills. People keep wanting reports of trail conditions. Expect lots of ice, and sometimes snow. If you are hiking in the winter, you need to bring everything.
