Colgate Lake to the Apple Orchard

This weekend, I wanted to get out an do an easy hike. The hike from Colgate Lake to the Apple Orchard is mainly flat. About 7.5 miles round trip. I arrived later then normal. But, the weather was real nice. When I arrived, I looked in the field for the butterflies, but they have not arrived yet. Took a few pictures and moved on. Meet a local young lady who was out for a similar hike. We pretty much hiked together, but separated at times.

When I got to the marsh overflow I discovered that a beaver had built a dam and the flooding on the trail is now much worse. But, I got through okay. The beaver didn't seem to be there any more. Just before we got to the apple orchard, the bridge over the creek was broken. No problem getting across the creek. Spent some time in the apple orchard. The apples are not ripe yet, but will be in a few weeks.

On may way back I took some pictures of the stream. Nothing great. I then hiked back to the car. It was a nice day to out in the woods. As usually the birds were flying around in the forest. Lots of warblers.

I'm hoping to get out and see the apples once they become ripe. Didn't know about the beavers. But, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
