Snow storm (Feb 2010) - parking in Blackhead PA

Unread post by dave »

As of Friday, February 26, 2010, the road to Blackhead PA or the Windham HP access is not accessible. There is 1-2' of snow on the road with 3-6" of hardpack under it. You might be able to access it with a good 4WD with chains. Bring a shovel!

Even if you can get up there, getting up to Blackhead would be just about impossible according to some hikers we encountered. The snow depth is very deep.

Until the town plows the road and clears the hardpack, I would avoid this area.

I was thinking about doing Blackhead tomorrow. I guess not! I am a little frightening of how deep the snow might be. Thanks!

You saw the 4-5' of snow we had over the past couple of days. You were up close and personal to witness it. Double that, and this is how much will be on Blackhead. That is assuming that you can get up the road, which doesn't seem possible at this point. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning.
