If you have ever hiked with Heather and Melissa, you know that they are a fun group of girls to hike with. Never a dull moment. Well, this Spring they decided to step up the fun a notch or two. They plan on hiking the Catskill Mountains highest 35 mountains in ballgown dresses. Yes, you heard that correct...Ballgown Dresses! As of this date, they have assembled a posse of 9 girls to hike the 35 peaks above 3500'. This includes a number of peaks that must be bushwhacked. If you haven't had a smile on your face in a while, pop on a Ballgown and join them.

Update: Men can join in on the fun by having formal wear on OR a ball gown dress (IF you are that kind of guy).

The first hike will start on June 18th at 9 AM in the Slide Mountain Parking Lot. They will be hiking Slide, Cornell, and Wittenberg mountains. Even if you do not want to do all 35 peaks, you can join them on the hikes you prefer.

June 18th - Slide, Cornell, Wittenberg Mtns
June 25 or 26th - Balsam Lake Mtn (tentative schedule)
Late July - Lone & Rocky Mtn (bushwhack)

Most of the girls have purchased used Ballgown dresses from second-hand stores.

Here is a list of the 35 peaks they plan on hiking: http://www.catskillmountaineer.com/list-3500.html

Fun and funky fundraising effort by hikers. Funds will be donated to the Catskill 3500 Club.

The brainchild of Heather Rolland and Melissa Bean, Gowns for Greenbacks is a fundraiser for the Catskill 3500 Club. Ok, it was mostly Heather, but Bean kept egging her on.

Bean, Heather and anyone else who dares to join them will hike all 35 of the Catskill's highest peaks clad in ballgowns. Sponsors make donations by the peak, or the mile, or the hike, or just a lump sum and get it over with! Fun and insanity on the mountains in ballgowns: who's in???

What a photogenic group! Everybody always seemed to have a smile on their faces. Can't imagine going down the Cornell Crack in a dress...or wearing a dress anywhere for that matter.

What did other hikers say when they saw the group? That must have been quite a sight.

A couple hikers passed us on the trail. Some asked, and it was explained to them. One couple, were shocked by the ballgowns. I told them, "Wait until they do the Devil's Path". While some hikers had already heard about them, so they were not surprised.

Amazingly, almost all the photos came out good.
