Hello, I am Axel, and my wife and I will be moving to Oneonta in 3 weeks. We currently live in the Middle East where hiking are opportunities are... lacking, and... rocky, and we're looking forward to hiking surrounded by trees and water. I really want to complete the 35 summits over 3,500 ft.

I've already taken a look at the hiking itineraries on the web site, but I must admit that since I'm not living in the area I'm not familiar with the different mountains and areas... so I'm not quite sure where to look for the hikes that are going to be closest to us. At first we're going to look for proximity, and then gradually span out eastwards.

Specifically, before we move to Oneonta we will be spending 6 weeks or so in Bovina Center. Are there any hikes that are in the immediate vicinity, or very close?

Thanks in advance - I am looking forward to moving to the area, hiking a lot, and hopefully making new friends.

Cheers
Axel

Welcome to the forum Axel.

You can see the list of the 35 highest here: http://www.catskillmountaineer.com/list-3500.html

No shortage of trees here in the Catskills! Most of the waterfall hikes are around Kaaterskill Mtn Range. There is a new waterfall section coming soon too.

You will be on the western side of the Catskills. There are a lot of smaller mountains on the Northeast side of the Catskills. You can also check out Balsam Lake Mtn Fire Tower hike. http://www.catskillmountaineer.com/BLMWF-BLM.html . It is on the western side and a nice hike.

You can also get a map of the hiking trails from National Geographics #755.

Lots of people to hike with here. Right now everyone is waiting for Spring.
