Lyrids Meteor Shower

Unread post by SNEAKers »

I am hoping for clear weather this weekend for the Lyrids meteor shower! Anyone planning on watching on Saturday night into Sunday morning? The northeast sky will be the direction the meteors are coming from and we are considering a night hike (on an easy and relatively safe trail) to watch.

Any suggestions on a good place that will have an open view to the northeast?

Fingers are crossed for clear weather!

The weather forecast for this weekend isn't looking too good right now. But, maybe it will change.

My pick for the best NE view would be Windham High Peak. There is also the Hunter Mountain Fire Tower. Maybe Bearpen Mountain too.

WHP for sure! 50% change of rain this weekend. Maybe it will miss us.

Weather doesn't look very promising for a meteor shower this weekend. Windham High Peak would be the best spot.

Unfortunately, last night was a bust! The weather simply would not cooperate.

Fortunately, the weather was perfect on Friday night without a cloud in the sky. We kept a lookout to the Northeast and saw approximately 4 meteors per hour. Some were the best I've seen because they left significant dust trails that lasted for many seconds!

Anyone else catch them of have better weather on Saturday night?

At least you were able to see some on Friday night! Saturday was a wash-out. It has been clear for almost a month, and it rains on the day where the meteor shower is suppose to occur. Oh well, that's life.
