It says that its private land. Do you definitely need to make contact with the owner?

Yes, out of respect & courtesy and not to mention safety. You wouldn't want someone to just appear on your property, would you?

As far as Graham the contact is Bill Scholl 845-586-4056. I mentioned I belonged to a hiking club. Though the hiking club didn't matter he said ok for anytime in the future. Regards. Ed

Thanks for the feedback. I completely understand the safety & private property issues.
I was just simply looking for feedback from someone who has hiked it before.
I made contact and Bill's wife was very nice.
Basicly - you accept all risks, you agree to not leave anything behind (which I would never do, in fact I usually end up carrying out other people's trash), and be respectful of the land.

All those things are a given for me.
