Earlier last week a hiker was lost on the Southern Escarpment trail, and this prompted SAR to find them. They were found with injuries.
The next day a hiker was injured around Kaaterskill Falls. SAR had to be called in again to extricate the girl.
On 8/14 (wed) SAR was out again with a group of lost hikers in the North-South Lake region. A call to 911 was placed around 9pm. The hikers were located around 10:15pm.
On 8/17 (sat) SAR were called to Batavia Valley on Peck Road (hike to Kaaterskill High Peak) to find a 15 year old hiker who was lost. The teenager was found after about 1 hour.
On 8/18 (sun) paramedics were called to Kaaterskill Falls on two separate calls of an injured hiker. In one case a teenage girl was injured after a fall and was taken to the hospital. Then a second hiker fell and was injured. This hiker was also taken to the hospital. No report on the extent of the injuries.
Sometime over the weekend a Black Bear overturned a large 250 pound boulder on the trail to Windham High Peak. Under the rock was a nest of bees. The boulder was too big to get out so the bear left. Hiker hiking through the conifer forest above the lean-to were getting stung by the angry bees.
It's been a wild and crazy week in the woods.
