Hikers lost between Platte Clove & Echo Lake

Wilderness Search: On Aug. 1 at 9 p.m., a group of hikers contacted Greene County 911 requesting assistance after losing the trail in the Platte Clove Preserve. The caller stated they were unable to find the trail markers. The group began their hike to Echo Lake in the Indian Head Wilderness Area at 2 p.m. and upon their return, they were losing daylight and decided to take a shortcut out to Platte Clove Road. With only the dim light from their cell phones, they were unable to follow the trail markers and called 911 for assistance. Forest Rangers Nelson and Dawson responded, along with Hunter Police Department. At 10 p.m., the hikers from Kingston were located, given lights, and assisted out of the woods.
