On Saturday, March 9, 2019 a skier was killed at Hunter Mountain while skiing down an Intermediate trail called, "Rip's Return". He was pronounced dead where he hit the tree. Police have identified him as Edware Chu, age 24, of New Jersey. He was skiing very fast down the trial, when he caught an edge and lost control. He then slid into a tree. He was wearing a helmet. The accident occurred around 2:45pm in the afternoon. He was skiing with his family.

It should be noted that most skiing fatalities occur when expert skiers are skiing down intermediate slope at a high rate of speed and hit a tree or other solid object. Helmets are absolutely worthless when skiers strike a solid unmovable object, such as, a tree or rock.
