On Saturday, February 2, 2019, a 36-year-old man from Germany, along with his family were doing a hike-and-ski from Notch Lake on Rt 214 to Hunter Mountain. During the ski part of the hike he was using downhill skis. The 36-year-old man was able to ski from the Hunter Loop Trail to the Devil's Path. From there he was able to ski down the easy section from 3,500' down to 2,800' feet. Approximately when he reached the steep section around 2,800' he hit a large rock. During the fall, he severely injured his leg. He fell around 2800' in elevation.

EMS received a 911 call from another family member around 6pm on Saturday. NYS DEC Rangers, Twin Cloves Technical Rescue Team, and several fire departments responded. Due to the steep terrain, they had to belay the skier down approximately 800' feet. The entire extraction took over 7 hours for a team of 15-20 people.

The skier was then transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital for treatment of a broken leg.
