Elm Ridge Parking on Rt 23 to be enlarged

New postby dave » Thu Aug 09, 2018 1:43 pm

The Elm Ridge Parking Area on Rt 23 in Windham is now being expanded to 3 times it's present size. Construction of the new parking lot started this week. On weekends and during events, the cars are now being parked on Rt 23. The DEC is allocating $63k to enlarge the parking area. The money for the project is being allocated from a 500k grant several years ago. They are also planning on some additional parking areas around Windham in the future.

Several years ago the Windham Area Recreation Foundation, which is run by Nick Bove helped build 25+ miles of mountain bike trails in this region of the Catskill Mountains. As word as spread, the popularity of the trails has grown. More mountain bike trails are also on the drawing board. The Foundation has done a terrific job of building and maintaining the trails. The trails are also used by hikers and cross-country skiers.

We expect that the enlarged parking area will be completed in this month or the in September.
