Construction of the the long awaited bridge over Lake Creek has started. This new bridge will be located a couple hundred feet upstream from the top of Kaaterskill Falls. It will be located where the old bridge over the creek was located back in the Hotel time period. It will connect the Escarpment Trail with the Kaaterskill Rail Trail. The funds were allocated several years ago, but the construction is just starting now.
The DEC has also improved the Cross-Country ski trail from South Lake down to the bridge location. This included new drainage on the cross-country ski trail, and a new bridge where the old hiking registration box used to be. The DEC registration box has been moved up to the trail that leds to the top of Scutt Road.
The piers will have to be rebuilt for the new bridge.
