The Catskill Mountains have received very little rain in the past month. The forest have become very dry, and the risk of a forest fire is a significant problem. We are asking the public to be very careful in the forest. With high winds and no leaves, it is very easy to have a fire get out of control. Over in Columbia County, there have been numerous brush fires. To the south there was a massive fire on the Gunks. So far the forest fire has burned 2,700 acres in Ulster and Sullivan counties. And, it is 75% contained at this particular point. You can read about it here.
