Last weekend, my buddy Elf and I went out for a tour of the Bushwhack Range. Between oversleeping on Sunday because of a storm Saturday night, and getting delayed by a big field of blowdown coming up to Balsam Cap from the west, we had to decide that Friday would be there another day, but we made the other three.

Trip report over at my blog.

No matter which way you go, this is a tough hike. Isn't always amazing that when there is no forecast for rain, you get it.

Friday isn't that far from BC. But, better safe then sorry.

I like to do Rocky, Lone, Friday and BC when the leaves are not on the trees. Makes it soooo much easier.

You guys did a great job! Hope to see you soon.

Yeah, I know Friday and BC are pretty close, but even another hour or two of hiking would have made the difference between getting back to the fishermen's path in daylight - well, twilight at least - with water still in our bottles, and fighting our way back down by headlamp with dry tanks. Maybe next time I'll go from Maltby Hollow.

In any case, I thought I'd share the trip report if only to warn about that blowdown field. You've been in that area; you know how much it means when I say it's worse than the spruce.

I'd love to get out with you again. Let me know when!

Better to get back with daylight then push it beyond reasonable limits. You made the right decision.

Blow down of trees can be quite difficult. Good to know.

My feet are still recovering. Getting better, but ever so slowly.
