Hey everybody.how's it going? I just want to say hello and introduce myself. My name is LJ.I'm 28 and from New Jersey.I have been hiking since I was a kid.I have only been hiking in the Catskills since last fall but from the moment I started hiking to Sugarloaf I was instantly hooked. Even though my first Catskill hike was on the Devil's Path I still decided to come back for more lol. Anyway I just wanted to thank everyone who has contributed to this website. It has been very helpful and informative and has helped me to feed my new addiction of trying to learn as much about the Catskills as possible. Thank you all. Happy hiking everybody

Welcome to the forum LJ! Great info on the site. Can't wait for the new waterfall section to be released. Some great people to hike with also. Since you are new to the Catskills, there are some folks here that knew the Catskill well, so ask if you have questions. Maybe we'll see you out there sometime.

Thank you.I can see that there are many people with a lot of valuable knowledge of the Catskills. That was a major draw to this site. I am very excited for the waterfall section to be added as well. Personally I can't get enough of waterfalls and there is certainly no shortage of them. I've gotten 4 of the 3500's under my belt already and look forward to hiking them all. Also looking forward to warm summer weekends to explore swimming holes I've heard about and found. Obviously nothing near any waterfalls or anywhere dangerous. I try to be as safe and avoid unnecessary risks at all times if possible.

Welcome to the forum LJ.

Hiking the 35 highest peaks is a common list. All 35 peaks are listed on this site, so that should help. There are always group hikes going on if you like company.

The waterfall section will be very nice once it is done. Unfortunately, most are very difficult to get to. At least 75% of them are around the Kaaterskill Mountains. Maybe 75 in total. At least 42 in the Kaaterskill Clove. Some are very dangerous. Some are easy. Swimming holes are more difficult, but not impossible. The best ones are in the Kaaterskill Clove and at the bottom of Platte Clove. There is also swimming at North-South Lake and Colgate Lake. There are a few on Peekamoose Road.

Thank you Mike. I'm glad to have found this forum and thankful that others such as yourself are willing to pass on your knowledge of the Catskills. They are such a magical and beautiful wilderness.

Welcome. I am originally from New Jersey and lived in Ct. these past 30 years. I just retired in June 2012 and moved to Saugerties. I have been hiking up here for years.
