Most ski centers do expand at some point. Belleayre purchased High Point many years ago, and did nothing with it. So, any expansion is actually a contraction. With 25 million skiers in the USA, they actually use very little amount of land.

The plans for expansion go beyond the ski area itself. Two RESORT hotels, golf, etc. This land has apparently been set aside for some time for "more intense usage".
If all goes through, it could be a major boost to the economy here which has not thrived. I am about to purchase a vacation home in the area, we like Belleayre and a little improvement would be great, alot ? Well thats TBD. To me, it's all exciting, just wondering if any other opinions exist on this thread. ..

The expansion at Belleayre has been discussed in great detail for many years. Both Hunter Mtn and Windham Mtn also have expansions like what is proposed for Belleayre. And, if you go out west, they also have what is proposed for Belleayre.

The Sierra Club came in and objected to the proposed development at Belleayre. After the owners of the project "donated" a thousand acres to NYS Forest Preserve, all the whining stopped. But, that is the mission of the Sierra Club, is to obtain land for the public at all cost. Oddly enough, when Hunter and Windham Mtn proposed the same thing, no one cared.

There are still bitter feelings on both side. Bringing the subject up again is like throwing rocks at a hornet's nest. It's pretty much a done deal.
