Heat & Swimming = too many cars on Rt 23a

New postby mtnclimber » Mon Jul 05, 2010 5:08 pm

Temps are close to 100 degrees. It's July 4th weekend. And Rt 23a is PACKED with cars! the police are towing many cars on rt 23a. If the car is over the white line, it is either ticketed or towed.

I hear they towed about 15 cars. Probably more.

Tough situation. Really need more parking spots on 23a.

I hate to say it, but good! It becomes way too dangerous for the drivers and the pedestrians, not to mention the bikers are out too (it was the same this weekend too). Perhaps they should also think about putting in some type of trail or walkway to get people off the road from the parking lot to Kaaterskill Falls.

In 2006 when the road was washed away, the NYS DOT wanted to expand the side of the road so that hikers would not be endangered by walking in the road. The NYS DEC rejected this request. They stated that because if was part of the Forest Preserve, they could not allow this. I think it is a poor excuse. I am surprised no one has been killed there yet.

It seems to get worse every year. There doesn't seem to be any room for cars anymore. Sooner-or-later someone is going to get killed on the road.
