I will be in the Catskills in the next couple weeks for a backpacking trip. I am looking for a good swimming hole--any favorite spots? I'm looking for someplace that is remote and uncrowded; since I am hiking in and camping, I don't need to be close to a trailhead. Close to a campsite is a plus.

Not many swimming holes in the Catskills. There is one in the Kaaterskill Clove, but the town makes it difficult for people to swim there. The second one is in Platte Clove. Very difficult and dangerous to get there. But, excellent. There is another one down towards Sundown NY in the Peekamouse Valley. There is some free camping there. The swimming hole is a little east of there. Not remote. Will have to share it with a lot of other people. The forth option is to camp at North-South Lake and use one of the beaches. Probably the best option. Some of the best hiking in the Catskills too.
