Mild Winter=More Ticks?

Unread post by Mitch »

Hello All,

From what I understand, ticks are a growing problem in the Catskills. Will this year's mild winter mean more ticks come summertime? I'm used to dealing with ticks out on the east end of Long Island, but I hate to have to start worrying about them in the Catskills.

Right now they are very heavy below the eastern escapement. But, there are a lot of rodents there. Once you get into the Catskill Park, there are very few rodents, so you will see very few deer ticks. Deer ticks need rodents to survive.

But, if you are hiking on th eastern escarpment, you need to check yourself after hiking. It is important to remove them within 24 hours.
