Fiddleheads
Anyone eat fiddleheads? Can they be eaten raw, as in a salad or must they be cooked? If cooked, how?

Re: Fiddleheads
Since there has been no response; shall I assume no one has eaten fiddleheads?

Sorry, but no. Do they have a different name?

I don't know them by any other name. They are the beginning stage of the fern, just as they begin to open.

Re: Fiddleheads
We eat fiddleheads. Late April i believe? Picked young and tight before they unfold.
They need to be sautéed in a bit of butter or olive oil. Tastes a bit like asparagus when cooked.
Unlike asparagus, that is wonderful raw, fiddleheads are very bitter raw.
Hope that helps.

I had looked into fiddleheads also trying to identify food and income from my property, I do remember that not all ferns are eatable and this video below states you should not eat them raw.
