microfish ala Google

New postby Jon » Sat Jan 07, 2012 1:38 am

I always loved going to the library when I was younger and getting some good ol fashion microfiche.

I have found that google has a lot of articles from the late 1800's to today archived online. Some require a subscription to NYtimes, and others are free to view. I love reading old articles and old stories. Most is blah every day things, but even seeing some of the other stories of context is interesting. Sometimes the advertisements make me chuckle.

Anyways just a cool way to look up some history if you got any keywords. Maybe searching for some of the old hamlet and town names from the late 1800's might bring up more results.

Really cool stuff, I'm going to try to read all of these articles! Either the NY Post or Daily News runs a vintage article every Sunday, usually an intriguing crime story. I always enjoy reading them, especially when they quote the original newspaper articles. It's great to see the English language evolve even from 100 years ago!

yah when I see "to-day". Like it was two words, and we got lazy in the past 80 years or something.
