Stone piles, Westkill

Unread post by dundee »

Just a few minutes in on the Westkill/Diamond Notch Trail there are several stone piles in the woods on the left. They are not just piles, but neatly contructed and visible from the trail. Anyone know what they were used for?

Usually they would put the stones in a pile while clearing a field. You can see lots of them in the Catskills Mtns

Normally, yes, that would be the case, but these aren't just piles that you find in most places. These are carefully constructed, almost artistically done. someone put some time into these.

I'll see if I have pics.
