Ice Climbing season opens with a bang!

Around Christmas we had a unusual warm spell that ruined the ice. But, between Christmas and New Years, we received a cold spell that froze up the ice nicely. In addition to this, we have had a wet Fall, so that ice is flowing very well. Many climbing spots are now being climbed. This includes Moore's Bridge; Below Bastion Falls; Rt 42 Falls near the pass summit. Buttermilk Falls should be available soon. Ice climbers are very excited. This ice at some of these spots is thinner then they would like, but it is climbable.

the ice by Moore's Bridge has not developed enough yet. There is a spot to climb, but it is limited. In the next week or two, it should be good.

The ice down by Moore's bridge is much better this week. Lots of ice climbers down there. Some ice climbers headed to Kaaterskill Falls. Probably climbing the lower falls. Buttermilk falls appear to be frozen from top to the bottom. Quite a few people were headed up there. More climbers on Rt 42 also.

Looks like ice climbing is in full gear :)
