It has been announced that Stiefel Labs will remain in the Durham Valley. This will save somewhere around 200 jobs in Greene County. Instead of making creams, they will be making toothpaste (Aquafresh). This will require retooling of the factory. It will also help the school district.

Stiefel Labs will get a number of concessions from local, state, and federal government. A lot of people were involved in saving these jobs. Paul Slutzky, of Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl, did play a big part of helping Stiefel Labs stay here. He helped secure some of the concessions that made the difference.

Many people believed that Stiefel Labs was a lost cause, so this came as a surprise to many people.

I have been informed by an employee of Stiefel Labs that they have not been officially informed that they will be staying open. The plant in New Jersey is still open. It might be premature to celebrate the savings of 200 jobs. Only time will tell.
