The New York State DEC will be closing two campgrounds this summer in the Catskill Mountains:

* Devil’s Tombstone, on Rt 214 in Hunter, NY in Greene County.
* Bear Spring Mountain, Delaware County.

If you have reservations at either of these campgrounds this summer you need to contact them for a change of campgrounds.

We don't know if the pay for parking at Devil's tombstone will be active this summer.

We have just been notified that the pay-for-parking at Devil's Tomestone will be free for the 2010 summer season. This campground had a low occupancy rate of less then 40% and took in less then $3000. It is one of the poorest performing campgrounds. Not sure what will happen in 2011.

I heard that they may not plow the parking lots anymore. Has anyone heard this?

Officially, they do plow the parking lots. But, I have never seen them plow them, with exceptions to North / South Lake. I am sure that they do plow some of them, but would be very limited.

South Mtn Access - never been plowed.
Pisgah Mtn - never been plowed.
Richmond/Pisgah Road - never been plowed.
Windham (rt 23) - Generally plowed by the town, but they might plow it from time-to-time.
Windham (Big hollow rd) - Plowed by the town.
Blackhead (big hollow rd)- not plowed
blackhead (by thomas cole) - plowed by town
north/south lake - plowed by staff
Rt 214 - plowed by state
Rt 42 (halcott) - plowed by state
Rt 42 - I have not seen it plowed by the dec - partially plowed by town.
Spruceton (horse) - plowed by dec
spruceton (other 2 PA) - plowed by town
bearpen (ski run road) - not plowed
bearpen (side road) - plowed by town

This is just a partial list. If they stop plowing, it will probably not matter much.

I like North lake campground. Not sure I would want to camp at Tombstone.
